IN CHRIST: HUMILITY

As human beings, humility is something that we often struggle with. We live in a world that glorifies arrogance and self-promotion, and it can be difficult to resist the temptation to put ourselves above others. However, as Christians, we are called to a higher standard. We are called to live with humility, following the example of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In this article, we will explore what it means to live in Christ with humility and how we can cultivate this attitude in our daily lives.

In Christ, we have received the forgiveness of our sins and the salvation of our soul. This is a powerful truth that should humble us. We did not earn our salvation; it was a free gift given to us by God through the sacrifice of His Son. It is only through our faith in Jesus Christ that we are saved, and this should lead us to a place of deep humility. We did not save ourselves; we were saved by grace.

Access to the Father

In Christ, we have access to the Father. We no longer have to live in fear or separation from God. We can approach Him with confidence, knowing that we are loved and accepted by Him. This is another reason why we should be humble. We do not deserve to have a relationship with the Creator of the universe, but through Jesus Christ, we can have a personal relationship with God.

Covering others in love

Living in Christ with humility also means putting the needs of others before our own. Philippians 2:3-4 says, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” When we humble ourselves and consider others more important than ourselves, we show the love of Christ to those around us. We can serve others, put their needs first, and show them how much they matter to us and to God.

Self-Image

Our culture tells us that we should focus on building our self-esteem and self-worth. But as Christians, we should seek to find our value and worth in Christ alone. Colossians 3:3 says, “For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” When we realize that we are “hidden with Christ in God,” we can let go of the pressure to promote ourselves and instead focus on living for Him and serving others. We don’t have to worry about our image because our identity is found in Christ.

The Example of Jesus Christ

One of the best ways to cultivate humility in our lives is by focusing on the example of Jesus Christ. Philippians 2:5-8 says, “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

Jesus lived a life of perfect humility. He did not hold His position as the Son of God above others, but rather chose to serve and love them with everything He had. He humbled Himself by becoming a servant, and ultimately, by laying down His life for us.

Conclusion

In conclusion, living in Christ with humility is not easy, but it is essential. As Christians, we are called to live lives that are marked by selflessness, sacrifice, and service. When we humble ourselves and put others first, we reflect the love of Christ to the world around us. We show those around us that true greatness comes from serving others, not from promoting ourselves. May we all strive to live in Christ with humility, following the example of our Savior and Lord.
